Plugin presets, VST3 effects, 25 more supported plugins
A week of shipping since the last update. The short version: Dawbrain loads your plugins’ own presets, controls effects as well as instruments, works with 25 more plugins out of the box, and gets more done with fewer credits.
Presets from your plugins’ own libraries
Ask for “a warm pad from Diva” or “a plucky Serum bass” and Dawbrain finds it in the plugin’s own preset library: Serum, Vital, u-he synths like Diva and Hive, Valhalla and FabFilter. For any other VST3 plugin it uses the .vstpreset files Live indexes, both the ones you saved from Live and factory banks that ship in that format. If you keep presets in a folder of your own, add it under Settings > Preset folders.
25 more plugins, supported out of the box
If you own any of these, Dawbrain now works with them with no preparation:
- FabFilter: Pro-Q 4, Pro-Q 3, Pro-C 2, Pro-C 3, Pro-DS, Pro-G, Pro-L 2, Pro-MB, Pro-R 2, Saturn 2, Timeless 3, Twin 3, Volcano 3
- Synths: Diva, Hive, Spire, Sylenth1, and a reworked Vital
- Effects: Serum 2 FX, Surge XT Effects, ShaperBox 3, OTT, Valhalla VintageVerb, Valhalla Supermassive, TDR Nova, Kickstart 2
Any other VST3 plugin works after a one-time preparation. If one doesn’t, or you’d like it supported out of the box, write to info@dawbrain.com.
Effects, not only instruments
Dawbrain now loads and controls VST3 effects as well as instruments. “Put a Pro-Q on the vocal and cut some mud around 300 Hz” is one request.
Plugins already on your tracks
Dawbrain can now take control of a VST3 plugin that’s already on a track. For Pro-Q 4 it can also read the settings, such as each band’s frequency and gain. Before, it could only control plugins it had loaded itself.
More done per credit
Typical requests now use noticeably fewer credits, and we’re continuing to make each credit go further, leaving you more room to experiment.
Control stays with you
- Undo button. One click under the latest reply reverses its changes in Live, at no credit cost.
- Alternatives. When Dawbrain writes a part, ask for two or three versions. Each goes on a muted copy of the track, and your original stays as it is until you pick one.
- Changes card. Every reply shows what changed in your set, including anything that was removed or couldn’t be done.
- Protected tracks. Tell Dawbrain to leave a track alone and it stays untouched for the rest of the conversation.
- Safer arrangement edits. Dawbrain won’t place a clip on top of another one, and it stops if you switch to a different set mid-request.
Also shipped
- Song sections: Dawbrain finds the intro, drop and break in an arrangement from the audio, and can check whether a loop joins cleanly, suggest a sample’s tempo and line up two clips.
- Installers for both platforms: a setup program for Windows and a signed package for macOS, on the install page.
- Dawbrain for macOS is now signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS shows fewer security prompts.
- A Continue button when a long request reaches the step limit, and a round of polish across the chat.
Dawbrain is free to start: 120 credits, no card, no expiry date. Install it, load a preset you forgot you owned, and let us know what you would change at info@dawbrain.com.
