Rename every track in your Ableton Set

Abstract pattern of a track list with confirmed name tags, piano-roll note dashes, and pulse rings in amber and blue on a light background

Every session eventually fills up with Audio 1, Audio 2, MIDI 3. Import a batch of stems, bounce a few groups, come back a week later, and half the track list is anonymous. You end up soloing tracks one at a time just to find the vocal chop.

Ask Dawbrain to “rename all tracks based on their content” and it goes through the session the same way it does for any other request: reading clip names, the devices loaded on each track, and how tracks are grouped. Then it writes names back, one confirmed batch of writes, so it’s a single undo if you don’t like the result.

It’s not a dedicated rename button. Dawbrain reads the session the way it does for any other request, and this one happens to touch every track at once. That’s also why the results are specific rather than generic:

A track with no clips and no devices doesn’t get a made-up name. It gets left alone, reported back as unused rather than guessed at, the same honesty Dawbrain applies to a failed kit load or a missing sample.

Here’s the 41-track session going from Audio 1 / MIDI 3 labels to names you could actually mix by, in 46 seconds:
